Living with summertime all year long keeps us out and about in Miami in very little clothing. Although working out is done for aesthetics, it is also great for your heart, muscles, metabolism, and stress level. Here’s my 6 top choices for gyms in Midtown.

Crossfit Wynwood

While the name might be deceiving, Crossfit Wynwood has been a fixture in the Midtown Miami community for years led by the indomitable Bill Ohlsen who is a fixture in the community. The most interesting things about this particular crossfit is its extensive programming for athletes at all levels: beginner to advanced. This local fitness space is bringing in-house sports therepy and chiropractics to the neighborhood. Additionally they offer mind-body awareness yoga & a Triple Threat Bootcamp. So still not your everyday CrossFit facility. Led by coaches David Crespo, a fixture in the Miami CrossFit and weightlifting community, local MidTown resident the dynamic Ariana Avarado, and Alfredo Caprile, master of the AM crowd, to name a few. They even gave us the inside scoop that WynWellness will be opening in early January 2019. Barry’s Bootcamp

Another South Beach fixture came to Midtown in 2015. Barry’s prides itself on combining weight training with cardio and anaerobic exercise including recovery periods (High Intensity Interval Training, or HIIT) to keep the heart-rate elevated throughout the workout. This means you are burning fat for fuel almost 48 hours after your workout.

Orange Theory

Although a chain, Orange Theory also works similarly to Barry’s, only in a circuit setting. The main goal is to spike your heart rate (12 minutes in the Orange Zone as they call it), so that you are in the fat burning threshold throughout your workout. You may go at your own pace, and the workouts change daily. You are constantly using different equipment, so great for those who get bored at the gym.

DBC Fitness

DBC, an acronym for Dumbbells, Barbells and Cables, has been around helping athletes for years. Focused on biomechanics and functional movement, here is one on one personal training. Hang out here long enough and you are bound to see an NBA or NFL player working out. Their approach is curated for each individual and focuses a lot on corrective exercises. A great gym for those needing personal attention.

The Box

Although not exactly a gym, this Midtown mainstay has taking boxing to another level. Think boxing meets technology with 30-bag workout classes and personal training sessions. The Box incorporates cutting-edge technology since their 30 boxing bags have a boxing tracker to offer a score on your hits to help you improve. It’s also like a club where the lights are dim and it seems like it is only you and the bag and banging music. In addition to boxing, they also offer HIIT’s and personal training, so to me, that falls into a gym category.

In addition to the aforementioned gyms in Midtown, there are also other fitness options. There is Rise Nation, Ahana Yoga, Yoga now at Upper Buena Vista- a new area I still link to Midtown and the Design District. The choice is yours- now get moving!.
