Key Largo (1948)
Bogie. Bacall. Film noir. What else do you need on a stormy night? This 1949 film directed by John Huston was adapted from Maxwell Anderson's 1939 play of the same name. It centers on an Army vet (Bogie) who visits his old friend's hotel in Key Largo and finds a ruthless gangster (Edward G. Robinson) has hijacked the place. As a dangerous hurricane approaches, the two end up confronting each other smack dab in the eye of the storm. Trivia: Exterior shots of the brutal storm were borrowed from stock footage of "Night Unto Night," a Ronald Reagan film also made in 1948. (courtesy of NJ.com)
